Why we use information
Optional Analytics and score sharing use your consent. You can decline either and still play. We use necessary technical information to deliver the game, keep it secure and reliable, and respond when you contact us. Our legal basis for that processing is our legitimate interest in providing and maintaining the service and handling requests. Your rights are explained below.
On your device
- Local progresstiny-facts-collection-v1 stores numeric and trivia state, including trivia attempts. Starting a game is fresh; collection marks can remain. An older tiny-facts-playtest-v1 value may be read for migration.
- Preferencestiny-facts-muted saves sound preference; tiny-facts-measurements saves Metric/US preference. These values have no automatic expiry and remain until overwritten or cleared.
- Analytics choicetiny-facts:analytics-consent:v1 records Accept or Decline for up to 180 days without renewal. It is separate from game settings and player comparisons.
Player comparisons
Sharing a score is optional. Choosing Compare my run at the ending gives consent to share that run for player comparisons. No comparison requests or player cookie are created beforehand. Playing and seeing your local score do not depend on sharing or Analytics.
Sharing sends your numeric guess, accepted fruit IDs, tower height, bowl outcome/fill, and a recognised trivia answer ID with an attempt count. We do not send your typed trivia words. We store a browser-token hash, creation/expiry times, challenge version, score, aggregate round results and request counters; the accepted-name list is not kept in the score record. These records are browser-linked, not anonymous.
The tf-player cookie lasts up to 30 days without renewal. Runs share its original expiry, so a late entry remains for less time. Only your first completed run per challenge enters the pool; replays and your own entry are excluded from your comparison. A ranking needs ten others. Comparisons are casual game results, not verified competitive rankings.
Remove your shared runs
Use this same browser to withdraw score-sharing consent and remove its shared runs and comparison cookie. Game progress and your Analytics choice stay unchanged. Nothing is shared again unless you choose Compare my run again. If you clear the cookie first, we may no longer be able to link a removal request to those records. Never send us a cookie or token.
Expired records leave comparisons immediately. Daily cleanup removes expired records from the active database. Recovery copies may retain earlier records for up to a further 30 days, including runs you have removed. Recovery copies are for restoring the service, not for ordinary comparisons. We will honour expiry and removal requests before reopening a recovered comparison pool.
Optional analytics
We use Google Analytics only if you accept, to understand visits and improve the games. No Google analytics script or measurement request is made before acceptance.
When enabled and accepted, Analytics receives sanitised page visits and game milestones such as game type, result, points and duration, along with browser/device information and approximate location derived by Google. External referrers are reduced to their origin. We do not send typed answers, guesses, accepted-name lists or the comparison identifier. Advertising features, Google Signals and user-provided-data collection are off.
You can decline without affecting play, or change your choice in Privacy settings. Withdrawing stops this site's collection and removes its _ga and _ga_… cookies; it does not itself erase measurements already sent. The choice and Analytics cookies last up to 180 days without automatic extension. This is separate from Google's retention period.
The Analytics property has been configured with two-month user/event retention without renewal. Google processes deletion on its monthly cycle; this setting does not expire standard aggregated reports, which can remain longer.
Hosting, support and providers
Cloudflare hosts Tiny Facts and its score-comparison database. Delivering and protecting the site involves request information, including IP addresses and browser information. Our comparison records do not contain IP addresses or device fingerprints. We use error diagnostics and a small sample of request traces to investigate faults. Worker Logs and traces are kept for up to seven days. Query strings are redacted from this diagnostic collection. Cloudflare’s separate security processing is described in its privacy policy.
If you email us, Cloudflare forwards your message to our Google Gmail inbox. We use your email address and message to respond and handle your request; we do not send them to Analytics. We keep correspondence while handling the request and for as long as reasonably needed to resolve related follow-up or disputes, then delete it unless a legal obligation requires longer retention.
Cloudflare and Google may process information outside the European Economic Area. Our score database uses Cloudflare’s EU jurisdiction; this does not mean all hosting, Analytics or email processing remains in the EU. Their applicable terms describe the safeguards used for international transfers, including contractual protections where required. You can read Cloudflare’s Data Processing Addendum, Google’s Analytics data-processing terms and Google’s Privacy Policy, or contact us for more information. External links have their own privacy practices.
Contact and your rights
Tiny Facts is run by an independent developer in Finland, who is responsible for the personal data described here.
Contact us about your applicable rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to or receive a copy of your information. Which rights apply depends on the processing. You can withdraw Analytics consent in Privacy settings and remove shared scores using Remove my shared runs above. Withdrawal does not change the lawfulness of earlier processing. You may complain to Finland’s Office of the Data Protection Ombudsman or your local data-protection authority.
